Job Description

As a member of the Government Relations team, you will work cross-functionally to  develop and execute community and grassroots programs to promote policies and create champions that advance peer-to-peer car sharing in Hawai'i. You will serve as an ambassador for Turo and its community of hosts and guests in Hawai'i, with responsibility for delivering the company’s vision and mission within the local community.  We're looking for someone with strong people skills who can communicate with hosts and community members. Your work will also help inform and educate lawmakers and regulators about the benefits of Turo to their state and constituents. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial, and intellectually curious. You’re equally excited by representing Turo at important community events as you are to regularly chat with Turo hosts about how peer-to-peer car sharing has positively impacted their lives. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Turo, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally to solve problems and deliver results.
 
 What You’ll Do:
 
Develop and strengthen the skills of the Turo community to advocate about the benefits of peer-to-peer car sharing in Hawaiʻi with lawmakers, regulators, community groups, stakeholders, and the broader population;
Manage and execute digital grassroots advocacy campaigns and content plans to both activate and educate Turo community members regarding peer-to-peer car sharing policy initiatives that will impact them;
Plan and host virtual and in-person events with Turo hosts and guests to foster a thriving community of engaged constituent advocates;
Responsible for the creation of compelling Hawai'i-centric content to Turo’s grassroots website and program;
Identify opportunities to amplify Turo’s grassroots program to generate awareness of Turo and partner with grassroots colleagues to create advocates with key lawmakers; 
Serve as a champion for the Hawai'i host community with both external stakeholders and across Turo;
Efficiently problem solve escalations and customer concerns that uniquely arise in the Hawai'i host community;
Collaborate cross-functionally on issues that impact Turo and our community in Hawai'i, ensuring close alignment with the marketing, account management, sales, airports, communications, customer support, and the broader government relations teams;
Organize community outreach programs and coordinate special events that promote the positive impact that Turo has in Hawai'i.
Cultivate and sustain relationships with Turo hosts, state and local lawmakers, airport regulators, Turo community members, and key stakeholders;
Respond to inquiries from community members and other interested stakeholders – when needed, recruit a knowledgeable spokesperson or information source to assist;
Develop a strategy to build and maintain programs and activities that will have a positive impact on the Turo community in Hawai'i.
Help identify and represent Turo at various community events, meetings, and media events on the islands; and
Support the national work of the grassroots and broader government relations team on an as-needed basis.
 
Your Profile:
 
Deep understanding of, expertise in, Hawaiian history and culture;
Extensive relationships with representatives from important stakeholder groups on the islands (e.g. the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Hawai'i Tourism Authority, and/or members of the Hawai'i Legislature); 
At least three years of work experience in community relations, grassroots activation, stakeholder engagement, government relations, constituent relations, campaign field operations, public relations or a related field;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Adept at developing creative new ways to mobilize supporters for strategic impact;
Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team and coordinate projects across stakeholders; and 
Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
